Where can I see lots for the next auction?
The lots for each of our auctions are uploaded to the website on Wednesday before the sale.
Our auctions take place fortnightly on Saturdays at 12:30 PM, giving you plenty of time to browse the catalogue online.
The Auction Catalogue, complete with estimates and photographs, will be available on the Upcoming Auctions page once published.
In-person viewing at our saleroom is available on the Friday before each sale, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Please note: There is no viewing on Saturdays, and the auction room will be closed until the auction begins.
What time do the sales start?
The sales start at 12:30 PM on Saturdays.
How much does it cost to sell at auction?

There is a flat fee of £4.00 per lot, which applies whether or not the item sells.

An additional 22% commission (plus VAT on the commission only) is charged only when an item is sold.

All fees and commission are deducted from your final sale total.

Payments are issued via bank transfer following the sale.
How much does it cost me to buy at auction?

This fee is added to the final hammer price and will appear on your final bill.

Can I have my items collected for sale?
As part of our service, we can arrange the removal of most household contents for auction—ranging from high-quality antiques to general household items.
This service is tailored to each customer’s individual needs and is free of charge for larger items that are consigned to auction.
Do you do house clearances?
Yes, we do offer a house clearance service.
At Shelby’s Auctioneers Ltd, we provide an efficient and reliable house clearance service designed to help reduce the stress of moving home or dealing with the belongings of a loved one after a loss.
As part of our service, we can arrange the removal of most household contents to auction—ranging from high-quality antiques to general household items.
Items suitable for auction are transported free of charge, while any remaining items requiring clearance are charged accordingly, depending on the volume and nature of what needs to be removed.
This service is faster and simpler than selling online, offering a convenient and environmentally friendly way to recycle unwanted items—while also giving you the opportunity to earn additional income.
Clearances can be scheduled at a time that suits you.
Will I need to register to buy at auction?
Yes, you will need to register in order to bid on lots in the auction.

Please note: These are the only available methods for placing bids on items offered for sale.
Can I still bid if I am unable to attend an auction?
Yes, you’re welcome to register for an absentee bid with our office.
Just provide your full contact details, including your email address and telephone number, when submitting your bids.
You can also leave absentee bids directly through our website, making it easy and convenient to participate if you’re unable to attend in person.

Can I put a reserve price on items I want to sell?
Yes, vendors have the right to place a reserve price on any items offered for sale.
This is usually done with guidance from our valuer or auctioneer to ensure it reflects fair market expectations.
However, please note that setting a reserve does carry the risk of the item not being sold if bidding does not reach the minimum price.
Can you give me a valuation on items I want to sell?
We offer a free valuation service to all our vendors, along with a free collection service for larger household contents.
Some exceptions may apply, depending on the nature and location of the items.

Please note: If you require a written valuation for insurance, probate, or other formal purposes, this is a chargeable service, with payment required at the time of the visit.
When can I collect items I have won?
Collections are allowed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of auction week only.
Any collections outside of these days must be arranged in advance by calling us on 0113 250 2626.
Please note the following important policies:

No items may be removed from the premises unless full payment has been received.

All goods must be checked before leaving the auction house, as we are unable to resolve any discrepancies once items have left the premises.

No refunds will be issued after items have been removed.
Shelby’s Auctioneers Ltd reserves the right to dispose of any remaining items—either by resale or donation to charity—if they have been left on the premises for more than 7 days without contact from the vendor or buyer.
We do not accept any responsibility for items left uncollected after the auction, and no compensation will be given for goods disposed of after the 7-day period.
When is the salesrooms open?
We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM for items being brought in for future sales.
Please make an appointment in advance to arrange drop-offs.
