The lots for each of our auctions are uploaded to the website on Wednesday before the sale.
Our auctions take place fortnightly on Saturdays at 12:30 PM, giving you plenty of time to browse the catalogue online.

The Auction Catalogue, complete with estimates and photographs, will be available on the Upcoming Auctions page once published.

In-person viewing at our saleroom is available on the Friday before each sale, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Please note: There is no viewing on Saturdays, and the auction room will be closed until the auction begins.

The sales start at 12:30 PM on Saturdays.

  • There is a flat fee of £4.00 per lot, which applies whether or not the item sells.

  • An additional 22% commission (plus VAT on the commission only) is charged only when an item is sold.

  • All fees and commission are deducted from your final sale total.

  • Payments are issued via bank transfer following the sale.

  • A 22% commission fee, plus VAT on the commission only, is charged on every lot purchased.

  • This fee is added to the final hammer price and will appear on your final bill.

  • Please note: VAT is charged only on the commission, not on the hammer price itself.

Yes, vendors have the right to place a reserve price on any items offered for sale.
This is usually done with guidance from our valuer or auctioneer to ensure it reflects fair market expectations.

However, please note that setting a reserve does carry the risk of the item not being sold if bidding does not reach the minimum price.

We offer a free valuation service to all our vendors, along with a free collection service for larger household contents.
Some exceptions may apply, depending on the nature and location of the items.

Please note: If you require a written valuation for insurance, probate, or other formal purposes, this is a chargeable service, with payment required at the time of the visit.

Collections are allowed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of auction week only.
Any collections outside of these days must be arranged in advance by calling us on 0113 250 2626.

Please note the following important policies:

  • No items may be removed from the premises unless full payment has been received.

  • All goods must be checked before leaving the auction house, as we are unable to resolve any discrepancies once items have left the premises.

  • No refunds will be issued after items have been removed.

Shelby’s Auctioneers Ltd reserves the right to dispose of any remaining items—either by resale or donation to charity—if they have been left on the premises for more than 7 days without contact from the vendor or buyer.

We do not accept any responsibility for items left uncollected after the auction, and no compensation will be given for goods disposed of after the 7-day period.

We are open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM for items being brought in for future sales.
Please make an appointment in advance to arrange drop-offs.
